يتناول الكتاب فكرة كثيرة الروايات التي يلجأ كتابها فيها إلى خدعة ما، كأن يخترعوا، مثلا، شخصية وهمية يقولون، من خلالها، ما يريدون قوله، وربما كانت المقامات، في الأدب العر القديم، مثالا جيدا على هذا، لقد اخترع بديع الزمان الهمذاني راويا هو عيسى بن هشام وتركه يقص الحكايات / المقامات، كما لو أنه يريد أن يدفع عنه أي إتهام، أو أن يرد عنه أي أذى كن أن يلحق به، لو تشابهت أحداث مقامة ما مع حدث معيش مشابه، وربما لم يكن هناك إمكانية لأن يبدأ صاحب المقامات كتابه بما يلجأ إليه الكتاب المعاصرون حين يصدرون رواياتهم التصدير المألوف، درءا لأية إشكالية قد تلم بهم \"أي تشابه بين شخصيات هذه الرواية وشخصيات في الواقع تحمل الاسم نفسه هو مجرد صدفة\".
