يتحدث الكتاب عن مصر منذ أن فتحها المسلمون في القرن الأول الهجري، فكانت مصر منبع الثقافة، ومورد الغذاء الفكري، وحاضنة العلماء والأدباء، وأحد أهم مراكز العالم الإسلامي الثقافية، بل برزت في عهد الفاطميين كأكبر منازع للخلافة العباسية، بجوار دولة الأمويين في الأندلس. وتجانست مصر على مر التاريخ مع مكنونات الإسلام بلغته وثقافته وعقائده على عكس بعض الإمارات كتركيا والأندلس وإيران اللواتي ظللن على لغتهن وعاداتهن برغم خضوعهن للحكم الإسلامي. وفي هذه الدراسة يعرض لنا الكاتب «زكي محمد حسن» ما كرسته مصر لخدمة الحضارة الإسلامية، فساهمت فيها بنصيب وافر، وأنجبت كثيرا من أعلام المسلمين في العلوم والآداب والفنون والسياسة، وهي محاضرة ألقاها الكاتب، ضمن سلسلة محاضرات نظمها الاتحاد المصري الإنجليزي عن مصر عام 1942م.
