يرصد الكتاب بعضا من آثار السيرة الذاتية لجيل الستينيات، والتي كتبها الدكتور محمود عبد الفضيل، حيث يبدأها بالإشارة إلى أن هذا الجيل تفتح وعيه السياسي على معركة تأميم قناة السويس، والعدوان الثلاثى على مصر، وعاصر جميع التحولات والتقلبات السياسية والاجتماعية بدءا من هزيمة يونيو 1967، وخرج بعض أبناء هذا الجيل إلى بعثات للدراسة في الخارج، للتزود بالعلم فى النصف الثاني من الستينات. وتحكي هذه السيرة الذاتية بعضا من محطات حياة مؤلفها الذي قضي سنوات حياته العلمية في مدينة كامبردج، ويرصد عبر هذه المحطات التيارات الثقافية المختلفة التي أثرت فيه.
