يعرف كتاب \"الخلدونية والتلقي\"، لمؤلفه الدكتور محمد حافظ دياب، بابن خلدون من جوانب شخصية وفكرية. ويتطرق بداية إلى اسمه ونشأته وأصله وتحصيله العلمي. ثم يبين دياب أنه ضرب القيروان وغيرها طاعون جارف في منتصف القرن الثامن الهجري، وإثر ذلك غادر ابن خلدون تونس إلى فاس، ومنها إلى غرناطة التي كانت تخضع لتاج قشتالة. وفي عام 1363 م أرسله السلطان مفاوضا باسمه إلى بطرس الكاسي، ملك قشتالة .. ثم غادرها إلى شمال افريقيا عام 1365، ليمضي إلى بجابة ثم بسكرة ومنها إلى فاس .. فالأندلس، وأخيرا : العودة إلى تلمسان. وفي تلك الفترة اعتزل ابن خلدون سنوات أربع في جوار قبيلة عربية بتلمسان، حيث كتب مقدمته في قلعتها، ثم احتاج إلى مادة لإتمام عمله، فحضر إلى تونس عام 1378 م، وعمل عند سلطانها، ثم تركه طالبا الإذن بالسفر إلى الحج، وفي الطريق عرج إلى مصر، ومنها تصدر للإفتاء في الجامع الأزهر يدرس الحديث والفقه، ويشرح نظريته .. ومات فيها عن عمر يناهز أربعا وسبعين سنة.
