يقع الكتاب في ثلاثة أجزاء منفصلة تحمل العناوين التالية \"لعبة الأوراق والنور\" و\"ذهب أزرق\" و\"عشب الأيام\". وهو صدر بدعم من مشروع \"كلمة\" للترجمة التابع لهيئة أبو ظبي للسياحة والسفر والثقافة. ويضم هذا الكتاب \"الدفاتر\" التسعة التي كتبها ألبير كامو منذ العام 1935 وحتى قبيل وفاته في العام 1960. وألبير كامو روائي ومسرحي وفيلسوف وصحافي فرنسي ولد في بيئة فقيرة في الجزائر وتوفي والده في الحرب العالمية الأولى ونشأ مع أمه التي لم تكن تعرف القراءة أو الكتابة. وانتقل كامو في العام 1942 إلى باريس حيث عمل في صفوف المقاومة الفرنسية. وكان ذا توجهات يسارية لكنه لم يوفر الاتحاد السوفياتي في نقده للانظمة الشمولية. وقامت الروائية اللبنانية نجوى بركات بترجمة الكتاب وهي تملك في رصيدها ست روايات ترجم بعضها إلى لغات عالمية، ومن بينها \"باص الأوادم\" و\"يا سلام\" و\"لغة السر\".
