يتحدث الكتاب عن ذكريات مسطورة لم أقصد بها في مبدأ المر إلا أن اتحدث فيها بيني وبين نفسي فما أكثر ما كنت أحس الحاجة إلى أن أتامل أحداثا لأتكشف أبعادها وأتبين ما وراءها وكنت في لحظات أخرى أحس أننا على مفترق طرق فآوي إلى نفسي لأتحدث إليها، ذلك أن في طبيعتي شيئا من حب العزلة والرغبة في التأمل والاستبطان. غير أن سنوات طويلة مرت وإذا نحن نجد أنفسنا أمام هجمة مشبوهة من مذكرات وذكريات ومقالاتودراسات وأبحاث تعيد تقييم اوضاع سنوات عشناها وأحداث شاركنا فيها فرايت أن من واجبي ان أعود إلى الوثائق التى كنت محتفظا بها وإلى ما كنت دونته حينا بعد حين لأخرج الذين شاركوا في صنعها وكان لي رأى في بعض أمورها منه ما أعلنته ومنه ما أضمرته إذا لم تكن ثمة مناسبة للإفصاح عنه ومنه ما أيدته ومنه ما أحجمت عن إبدائه لموانع رهينة بظروفها- واعتقد أن من حق غيري ألا يرى مثل رأيي- ووجدت في نشر هذه السطور مجالا لأفصح عما لم يتح لي الإفصاح عنه.
