ترجمة تقرير من رحلة إلى مدائن صالح في منطقة العلا قام بها فريق مكون من سعوديين وأمريكيين وجنسيات أوروبية مختلفة بدعم من الحكومة السعودية في عام 1383 هـ (سنة 1964 م). مهد مؤلفها للحديث عن أحداثها بإشارات إلى الآثار النبطية في مدائن صالح، وإلى قصة ثمود مع نبيهم صالح عليه السلام، وهلاكهم وخراب منازلهم، ثم انتقل إلى الحديث عن ابتدائها ومسارها، حيث سلكوا الطريق إلى رابغ، مرورا ببدر، ثم خيبر، وصولا إلى العلا ثم مدائن صالح. ورصد الكاتب ما واجه الفريق في الطريق من مشاق، وما اطلع عليه من معالم، ومن قابل من أناس حتى إذا بلغ مدائن صالح وصف القبور المنحوتة وما فيها من مظاهر معمارية ورسوم صخرية، وما تضمه من رفات. كما سجل وصفا لجبل إثلب وما فيه من آثار، ثم ختم بتدوين مذكراته عن طريق العودة، والتعبير عن إعجابه بآثار المنطقة وأنه ليس لها مثيل بالعالم.
