يتناول هذا الكتاب أحد أهم آثار الحقب التاريخية التي تناولها القرآن الكريم والسيرة النبوية وكتب فيها المؤرخون وعلماء الآثار حيث يشير هذا الى إطلاق مصطلح الحجر بأسم مدائن صالح في نهاية الخلافة العباسية والحجر قرية صغيرة قليلة السكان وهي من وادي القرى على يوم بين الجبال وبها كانت منازل ثمود وقد أفاض المؤلف في وصف مدائن صالح ووصف أهلها وتاريخهم وتاريخ حضارتهم حيث أورد أن مدائن صالح يمتد تاريخها إلى القرن الثامن قبل الميلاد وكان السبب الرئيسي في معرفة الناس بمدائن صالح وشهرتها عند المؤرخين هو أرتباط المكان بثمود قوم صالح عليه السلام.
