تتمثل الإشكالية الرئيسية لهذه الدراسة في تحليل الدور الذي تلعبه الطرق الصوفية في تشكيل الثقافة السياسية المصرية، وذلك بتناول أساليب التنشئة السياسية التي تحيط به. وتعتمد هذه الدراسة على الوصف والتحليل في آن وتستخدم عدة مناهج بحثية حتى يتسنى لها الإلمام بكافة جوانب المشكلة موضع البحث. وتناول شقي الدراسة النظري والتجريبي فهي تستخدم المنهج التاريخي الذي يهتم بسرد الأحداث والمواقف التاريخية وتحليلها، فالظاهرة السياسية شأنها شأن الظواهر الاجتماعية هي محصلة لمجموعة عناصر متعددة تفاعلت مع مرور الزمن لتغطيها صورتها التي تظهر بها في الوقت الراهن. وهذا الأمر ينطبق بشكل تام على الطرق الصوفية فهي عريقة في التربة المصرية تمتد إلى ذي النون المصري 245 هـ بل وتسبقه من عصور ما قبل الإسلام ورغم هذا الزمن الطويل فهي لا تزال تحيا اليوم بعد أن تفاعلت مع معطيات الحياة في شتى مراحل تاريخ مصر.
