يتناول هذا الكتاب المناقب والوقائع لأمير المسلمين محمد بن عائض، فعندما شب مؤلفنا الحسن بن أحمد بن عبد الله كان حكم المنطقة آنذاك قد آل إلى سعيد بن مسلط ثم إلى أخيه من أمه علي بن مجثل ثم كان لابن عمهما عائض بن مرعي ثم إلى ولده محمد بن عائض، وكانت المنطقة في هذه المدة قد بلغت أوج مجدها، وعندما كان في أسمى سنوات نضجة الفكري كانت إمارة عائض بن مرعى وولده محمد لذا فمدحهما الكاتب وخاصة محمدا الذي قدم له أفضل شعره وأكثر قصائده، وأحبه حبا جما لما إمتاز به من صفات، وتوفى عام 1286 ولم يدرك فاجعة حكم آل عائض بل مصيبة محمد بن عائض بالذات وقتله على يد الأتراك وكان ذلك بعد وفاته بقليل عام 1289 هـ. كما تناول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب عدة موضوعات منها : لمحة جغرافية عن منطقة عسير والتي شملت ثلاث مناطق : تهامة والسراة والهضبة، ولمحة تاريخية، والأمير محمد بن عائض ميلاده ولمحة من حياة والده، وأخيرا إمارة محمد بن عائض.
