تحتوي هذه الدراسة على أربعة عشر بحثا لمؤرخين عرب وأجانب يتناول بعضها الحياة في القدس، ولاسيما في العصرين المملوكي والفرنجي، ويركز بعضها الآخر على مكانة القدس في الوجدان الإسلامي وفي الكتابات المتعددة من بيزنطية ولاتينية ويهودية. وتعرض الدراسة فصولا ممتعة عن العلم والعلماء، وعن الأدب العربي في فلسطين زمن الحروب الصليبية، فضلا عن عرض وسرد أدبي مشوق لسيرة الملك الظاهر بيبرس.
