تتناول الرواية حكايات تبدو غريبة لعائلته ومحاولاتهم الفرار من القرية إلى المدينة كما تعكس طبيعة الحياة في ذلك العصر التي لانعرف عنها بالطبع أي شيء، ظل من تلك الحياة أيضا تتبدى في القصة التالية التي يمكن اعتبارها في نفس السياق والتي حملت عنوانا مختلفا (جولة فغي منزلنا) ونكتشف فيها عادات وتقاليد المجتمع الصيني التي تكاد تقترب أحيانا من الشعوب العربية لاسيما علاقة الرجل بالمرأة، أعجبني بشكل أكبر القصة الأخيرة (يوميات شهر أغسطس) وشعرت بذكاء الكاتب في نقل مشاعر البطل وتعدد الروايات للحدث الواحد.
