يكشف (محمد نجيب) في هذا الكتاب عن مذكراته وصفحات سرية من التاريخ، فهو يصف مرحلة انتقالية شديدة الحساسية في تاريخ مصر، يبدأ محمد نجيب بسرد ثورة الضباط الأحرار (الانقلاب على الملك فاروق) ويتكلم عن السودان والاتفاقية معها، وعن مجلس قيادة الثورة ويكشف أهداف المجلس وأسباب سقوط الأهداف التي طمح إليها الجميع إلا بعض قادة الثورة الذين نكل بهم جمال عبد الناصر لمعارضتهم، ويتحدث عن المحاكمات التي قامت بعد ثورة 1952 سواء للمدنيين أو عسكريين، ثم تعيينه رئيس جمهورية.. ثم في النهاية عزله وتحديد إقامته، وتنصيب عبد الناصر مكانه وتزويره للتاريخ. وفي النهاية هو كتاب يصف طبيعة الحكم العسكري المستبد، وما تؤول إليه الدول نتيجة هذا الحكم الذي يهوي بالدول الكبيرة إلى الهاوية التي يصعب الخروج منها إلا بمعجزة إلآهية.
