عنوان هذا العمل هو (بحر العوام فيما أصاب فيه العوام) وهو كتاب من ثلاث كتب لابن الحنبلى تعرض فيها لما يقع على ألسنة العامة، وعلى الرغم من أن هذا الكتاب قد تم تأليفه بعد (سهم الالحاظ) وقبل (عقد الخلاص) كما صرح ابن الحنبلى نفسه في خاتمة (عقد الخلاص)، بعد تاليا له في الترتيب-علميا-من وجهة نظر مؤلفه، لأنه رأى أن (عقد الخلاص) وسط بين الكتابين.
