هذه دراسة لغوية أوسمتها بـ (اللغات في كتاب الجمهرة) وإن كانت دراسة اللغات من الدراسات الحديثة التي عني بها العلماء العرب، إلا أنها لا تقل أهمية وخطراً عن غيرها من الدراسات التي تهتم بلغة العرب. وما من شك في أن اللغات العربية-أعني اللهجات-هي الدعائم التي قامت عليها اللغة العربية، فهي تمثل الجداول التي تصب في معين واحد، وإن كانت قد اختلفت في روافدها فقد اتحدت في أصولها وهيئتها. وإن كان هناك بعض وجوه التقارب والتباعد بين هذه اللغات، فهذا أمر لا بد من وجوده لاختلاف ظروفهم وبيئتهم وثقافتهم وحرفهم واختلاطهم وعزلتهم، وهذا التباعد أو التقارب بين اللغات هو الذي يدفع الباحثين إلى محاولة التعرف على أسس هذا التقارب وأسباب ذلك التباعد، والقوانين التي سارت عليها اللهجات في كلا الطريقين، وسبر أغوارها.
