وصف الكتاب أرسطو قائلا : \" ذلك هو أرسطو الذي قبض بمجمع يديه على الوجود الواقعي، ووسع عمله أقصى ما بلغته المعارف الإنسانية حتي ذلك الحين، ثم نفذ بعقله التحليلي الدقيق إلى هذا وذا، حتى أقام بناءا شامخا، دعائمه الحقيقة العيانية، وأحجاره الوقائع المحسوسة والمعقولة معا، وملاطه الاستدلال البرهاني الدقيق، ثبت أقدامه في الواقع، وبعد أن استوثق من نفسه قذف بها في الكون المحدود النهائي، وبصره في أثناء هذا كله يفارق الأرض، لم يرنق في سماء المعقول ومنها تأمل المحسوس فرفعه إليه، كما فعل أفلاطون بل غاص برجليه في المحسوس، ومد يده الهائلة فجذب إليه المعقول\".
