يتناول الكتاب الحديث عن أفلاطون : حياته وفلسفته ثم يعرض إلى المشكلة الأفلاطونية والتي طرحها أفلاطون حول كل شيء بعد الحكم على سقراط بالإعدام والتي تقول بأن الفيلسوف، الذي يجب أن يحكم هو عاجز في إطار الدولة القائمة، لأن الدولة ذاتها هي ظالمة. لذا فهو يدعو إلى إصلاح الدولة وجعلها مطابقة للحكمة أي للعقل السليم. ثم يتحدث الكتاب عن فلسفة أفلاطون في الكيان والمعرفة وفي الله والكون والناس وفي علم الأخلاق والسياسة ثم يورد نتاجه وبعد المقتطفات من هذا النتاج.
