يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن إحدى المدن المصرية التابعة لمحافظة القليوبية، وهي مدينة مملوكية النشأة، كانت نواتها خانقاه للصوفية على طريق القوافل التجارية بين مصر والشام سنة 725 هـ / 1325 م ثم نمت تدريجيا حتى أصبحت مع بداية القرن التاسع الهجري مدينة تجارية مهمة، ولا تزال قائمة إلى اليوم، وانتظمت مادة الكتاب في سبعة فصول تناولت التسمية، والموقع، والتطور العمراني، والتنظيم الإداري، والأنشطة الاقتصادية، والحياة الاجتماعية والعلمية.
