يرى الصافي أن تاريخ الزعماء العرب خضع للكثير من التشويه والتلفيق وهو ما دفعه إلى صياغة هذا الكتاب \"كي يقول للأجيال القادمة لا تصدقوا الأكاذيب\"، وفق تعبيره. ويضيف في هذا السياق \"الجميع يتذكر كيف روجت الأبواق المأجورة لامتلاك الرئيس العراقي الأسبق، صدام حسين، لأسلحة دمار شامل قصد تبرير الغزو الأمريكي لبلاد ما بين النهرين، قبل أن يتبين بطلان هذه المزاعم\". وأبرز الصافي سعيد أن الكتاب الجديد \"يتداخل فيه التاريخ والسياسة ويمتزج فيه تاريخ العائلة بتاريخ الفرد\"، منوها إلى أنه أراد من خلاله \"إعادة الإعتبار لشخصية صنعت الحدث لحوالي نصف قرن\". وأشاد المتحدث ذاته بمعمر القذافي معتبرا أنه كان \"رجلا وطنيا ومخلصا لشعبه\"، وأن فترة حكمه \"مرحلة مهمة في تاريخ ليبيا الحديث\".
