هذا الكتاب به يحاول المؤلف الدخول إلى عالم السياب الشعري الذي كان مولعا بالأسطورة وتقصي مصادرها وملامسة عالمه الأسطوري عبر نصه الشعري والكتاب قسمه الدكتور عبد الله الشاهر إلى عدة فصول تتحدث عن الأسطورة وعلاقتها بالشعر حيث نوه أن نظرة الشاعر إلى الأساطير توسع دائرة رؤيته للتراث الإنساني فقد نشأ الشعر في أحضان الأساطير وهي جزء مهم من النشاط الشعري فالشعر الجاهلي لا يخلو من إشارات أسطورية فالأعشى حدثنا عن جن سليمان وعاد وثمود وفي شعر أمية بن أبي الصلت والنابغة الذبياني يشير إلى كثير من الأساطير العربية وكذلك زهير بن أبي سلمى.
