احتوى الكتاب (عدة محاور)، تناول فيها مقدمة عن (النسب وأهميته، لأنه يعد من العلوم التي حث عليها الشارع الحكيم فالرسول \"صلى الله عليه وسلم\" يقول : \"تعلموا من أنسابكم ما تصلون به أرحامكم، فإن صلة الرحم محبة في أهله، مثواه ماله منسأة في أثره\" ولأهمية نسب أهل البيت عليهم السلام الكبيرة وحسبهم ونسبهم الشريف، ومن محبتهم جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب الأسر العلوية في البصرة، يتضمن من نزل منهم أو سكنها لا سيما أن العلويين في البصرة كانت لهم نقابة خاصة بهم ما يؤشر إلى كثرة عددهم) وناقش الكتاب (أول من نزل البصرة وابتدأ بعميد البيت العلوي علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) ثم أبنائه الحسن والحسين ومحمد وعبد الله، ثم قسم الكتاب إلى خمسة أقسام على أولاد أمير المؤمنين الخمسة المعقبين وهم : الحسينيون ثم الحسينيون ثم بنو محمد بن الحنفية ثم بنو العباس السقا، ثم الاطارفة بنو عمر بن علي بن أبي طالب).
