تبحث الدراسة في حركة طالبان الأفغانية، وتحاول أن تعيد قراءتها مستوعبة سياقاتها الزمانية والمكانية والأحداث الدولية المصاحبة لمراحل تأسيسها الأولى، وتستحضر الظروف السياسية والعوامل الدينية التي كان لها دور في نشأتها وأسهمت بشكل واضح في تشكيلها، والبيئة الجغرافية التي أكسبت أعضاءها بعض خصائصها، ومثل ذلك العامل العرقي الذي استطاعت الحركة استيعابه، إضافة إلى اختبار السلطة الذي كان من أشد المراحل التي مرت بها الحركة، ومثله اختبار المقاومة والتفاوض، معرجة على أهم نقاط قوتها وضعفها، ومستشرفة مستقبلها في ظل العملية التفاوضية التي تجريها المكونات السياسية الأفغانية محاولة الإسهام بشكل أدق في تقييم تجربة الحركة.
