لقد تم إعداد الطبعة الثانية بقصد تحديث العمل الذي قام به رود وسوزان، بحيث إنها تعيد للأذهان العديد من المعلومات الواردة في النص الأصلي وتضيف إليها حقائق جديدة مما تعلمناه عن السلاحف البحرية في عمان خلال العقد الماضي. وتتضمن هذه المعلومات الجديدة توزيع السلاحف البحرية وإيكولوجية وتاريخ حياتها ودورها في تنشيط السياحة في البلاد والضغوط على موطنها والمخاطر التي تتعرض لها كنتيجة للتحضر والتنمية السريعة في السلطنة، وبهذه الطريقة فإنها تلقي الضوء على مدى استمراريتها وضعف فرص بقاءها وأن ما يتعرض له بقاء السلاحف البحرية من تهديدات، كما وردت في الطبعة الأولى من هذا الكتاب قد زايدت في خطواتها وحجمها مما يعني أن تعزيز الحماية المتوقعة قد ازداد قليلا.
