مما لا لشك فيه أن شخصية الرئيس العراقي : (صدام حسين) ومسيرته السياسية ستبقى لفترة زمنية ليست بالقصيرة، واحدة من أكثر الشخصيات الخلافية في تاريخ العراق والوطن العربي المعاصر. إن الحديث عن (صدام حسين) يعني الحديث عن تاريخ العراق في العهد الجمهوري، بدأت بصماته بالظهور مع بداية هذا العهد من خلال انتسابه لحزب (البعث)، ثم مشاركته إلى جانب آخرين في محاولة اغتيال رئيس الوزراء العراقي (عبد الكريم قاسم) عام 1959. لقد شاءت الأقدار أن يحكم الرئيس صدام حسين العراق مدة 24 عاما، قضى منها 12 عاما وهو في قمة مجده كرئيس من عام 1979 إلى عام 1991 وقضى منها 12 عاما وهو في قمة ذله كرئيس من عام 1991 إلى عام 2003. إن هذا الكتاب يروي حكاية الصعود والهبوط للرئيس العراقي \"صدام حسين\".
