في هذه الرواية \"كنت أجلس في البيت مع زوجتي... أقرأ بعض الأوراق التي سربتها لي ليلى حول الفتية الأغرار.. أولئك الشبان الذين أبحروا من الأندلس في سفينتهم الشراعية، مصممين على اجتياز المحيط الأطلسي والوصول إلى الشاطئ البعيد، واثقين بكروية الأرض التي أكدتها خرائط الجغرافيين العرب ودراساتهم.. كانوا شبانا دفعتهم جرأتهم وإيمانهم بالعلم إلى المغامرة في ركوب البحر والوصول إلى الشاطئ الآخر وسط إستهجان بعض الجهلة وسخريتهم، حتى أطلقوا عليهم لقب (الفتية الأغرار)، حتى إن هناك مكانا في لشبونة يسمونه (درب المغرر بهم إلى الأبد)\".
