يتناول الباحث في كتابه صراع الدول العظمى بريطانيا، فرنسا، ايطاليا ومن ثم الاتحاد السوفيتي والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية خلال القرنين التاسع عشر والعشرين الميلاديين على البحر الأحمر ومن أن البحر الأحمر ذات أهمية عالمية ذلك أنه أقصر الطرق بين الشرق والغرب ويتحكم فيه مفتاحين الشمالي المتمثل بقناة السويس والجنوبي المتمثل بمضيق باب المندب . ويحتوي الكتاب على ثمانية فصول بحدود ثلاثمائة وخمسون صفحة من الحجم الوزيري تطرق فيها الباحث إلى جغرافية البحر الأحمر وأهميته الإستراتيجية ومختصر عن تاريخه في العهود الإسلامية والعصر العثماني ومن ثم صراع القوى العظمى عليه خاصة بعد افتتاح قناة السويس عام 1869 م.
