يبحث كاتب الهند الكبير رابندرانات طاغور في روايته الطويلة غورا والتي كتبها سنة 1880 عن هوية أمته الضائعة بين طوائف ومذاهب والتي كانت تعاني في تلك الفترة من الجهل والتخلف وتعكس شخصية بطل روايته المسماة باسمه غورا ذلك الباحث عن وسائل ناجعة لرفع ثقل التقاليد الخاطئة عن كاهل المجتمع واللحاق بركب الأمم المتقدمة. يركز طاغور في روايته التي ترجمتها الدكتورة ماري شهرستان في كتاب صدر مؤخرا عن الهيئة العامة السورية للكتاب وتقع في 630 صفحة من القطع الكبير على التعصب الديني ويجعل بطلها غورا انموذجا للإنسان المستنير الذي لا يرى فوارق بين أبناء الأمة الواحدة طالما تجمعهم ذات الهوية ويقول على لسان غورا في الرواية الله خلق البشر مختلفين في أفكارهم وسلوكهم وقناعاتهم وتقاليدهم ويوجد عند الجميع عنصر أمتلكه أنا أيضا وهو ينتمي إلى الهند بمجموعها.
