تصور \"وطن\" زوبعة العنف التي هزت المجتمع الباسكي بخاصة والمجتمع الإسباني بعامة بعد موت الرئيس (فرانكو) عام 1975 وتستمر إلى ما بعد إعلان منظمة إيتا الانفصالية وقف إطلاق النار النهائي في تشرين الأول 2011، وذلك من خلال تتبع مصير علاقة أسرتين إحداهما بالأخرى : أسرة شاتو وأسرة جوشيان لقد رافق تلك الفترة ظهور شكل من القمع القاسي بحيث أن من يجرؤ على الخروج عن الامتثال لرؤية المنظمة وطريقتها في الوصول إلى غاياتها، لا يلبث أن يتعرض لكل أنواع المضايقات والملاحقات، أقلها التشهير به على الجدران، وأقصاها الاغتيال أو التفجير الذي يقوم به شباب خلت الرحمة من قلوبهم، كما هو حال ابن إحدى الأسرتين، فيقتلون أي شخص، كائنا من كان، بمعزل عن طيبته وعلاقة الود والمحبة التي تربطه بالقاتل.
