إن المقصود هنا بالعلوم العربية هو مجموع الإنتاجات والممارسات العلمية المنجزة في قسم كبير منها باللغة العربية طيلة تسعة قرون، من القرن الثامن إلى القرن السادس عشر الميلاديين. وهذه العلوم وإن كانت تعود في أصلها إلى الحضارات القديمة التي ذكرنا، فإنها تتميز في أغلبها يكونها تخاطب الإنسان من حيث هو كذلك بغض النظر عن انتماءاته العرقية والدينية والثقافية. إن الحضارة العربية الإسلامية وإن كان الدين الإسلامي عقيدتها الرسمية، واللغة العربية لسان نخبها، فإنها شكلت في العمق فضاء حضاريا رحبا استوعب كل الطوائف الدينة والتنوعات العرقية والثقافية.
