هذا الكتاب نتاج رحلات طويلة في البحث عن مصادر تاريخ الجزيرة العربية الحديثة وبعد عناء تم العثور على كثير من المصادر الوثائقية والمخطوطات والكتب النادرة وما كان الحصول عليها يسيرا لولا توفيق الله سبحانه وتعالى أولا ثم الإصرار والمثابرة والتضحية ثانيا ومن ضمن ما تم الحصول عليه من الكتب النادرة التي نستقى منها الأخبار المفصلة لأحداث الحملة العثمانية على عسير واليمن عام 1288 هـ / 1872 م كان هذا الكتاب لمؤلفه أحمد راشد باشا الذي كان شاهد عيان بصفته ضابطا مشاركا في تلك الحملة.
