يقدم هذا الكتاب محاولة لبلورة رؤية متوازنة حول فلسفة حقوق الإنسان، اعتمادا على ما قدمه الفيلسوف السياسي جون رولز في كتابه \"قانون الشعب\" والتحدي الفلسفي الذي يواجه أية رؤى فلسفية للعدالة وحقوق الإنسان، هو التعددية الأخلاقية والدينية الحاضرة في العالم أجمع، وهو ما سعى الكتاب لتجاوزه داخل أطروحة جون رولز، ومن ثم محاولة اختبارها على التصور العقدي الإسلامي كما يسائل هذا الكتاب جملة من أفكار بعض المفكرين الإسلاميين المعاصرين، في محاولة منه للكشف عن مدى قدرة أفكارهم على الاستجابة لتحديات فكرة العدالة وحقوق الإنسان المعاصرة.
