يرى هذا الكتاب انه لولا قوة الجاذبية في الأرض، والغلاف الجوي الذي يغطيها ويحوطها لتلاشى الأكسجين، والأرض تحتوي على غلاف جوي متعدد الطبقات فالطبقة الأولى من الغلاف الجوي بها نسبة كبيرة من الأكسجين ويمتد تقريبا إلى مسافة عشرة كيلو مترات إلى الأعلى والطبقة الثانية تحتوي على أهم غاز بعد الأوكسجين هو (غاز الأوزون) وهام جدا للأرض ومن فيها من الكائنات، حيث يحمينا من الأشعة الخطرة القادمة من الشمس، وأهمها الأشعة الفوق البنفسجية التي تسبب في حرق الجلد، كما وتسبب أمراضا خطيرة، منها العمى، وهي أشعة لا يشعر الإنسان بها، كما تحمينا من أشعة جاما وألفا، حيث أنها تمتص هذه الأشعة وتسمح بمرور القليل منها.
