تكمن أهمية دليل نقاد المسرح العربي الذي لا يحتفي بالجانب المفاهيمي بوصفه أول كتاب مبكر باللغة العربية يهتم بتوثيق تراجم نقاد المسرح العربي وعلى مدى أكثر من 120 عاما بداية من أول مقال نقدي مسرحي عربي نشر عام 1899 م. وصولا إلى عام 2020 م. ؛ كما إن السعي لإصدار هذا الدليل يأتي ضمن مشروع الاستراتيجية العربية للتنمية المسرحية الذي أطلقته \"الهيئة العربية للمسرح\" وتحديدا الندوة الثالثة للمشروع والتي عقدت بعنوان (نقد رؤية مستقبلية في إمارة الشارقة بدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة المسرح يومي 15 و16 أكتوبر 2011 م. وقد خلصت تلك الندوة إلى جملة من التوصيات تقف في المقدمة منها الدعوة إلى توثيق بيبلوغرافي بأسماء النقاد المسرحيين العرب.
