يتناول الكتاب دراسة الطبيعة الصامتة في شعر عصر ملوك الطوائف من أشجار وأنهار وثمار، وقمر وشمس، وسماء، ومطر وبرق، وغيرها من عناصر الطبيعة التي حملت معاني ودلالات خفية وغامضة ؛ وتناولت هذه الدراسة شاعرين في الجانب التطبيقي : ابن زيدون في قصيدته : (إني ذكرتك بالزهراء مشتاقا) الذي قسمها لثلاثة مقاطع، فالمقطع الأول كان في وصف بعض مشاهد الطبيعة، والثاني : اختص في التعبير عن الحنين والشوق بسبب المحبوبة، أما الثالث : ارتبط بمناجاة الطبيعة، وفيما يتعلق بابن خفاجة في قصيدته : (والشمس شاحبة الجبين مريضة، فقد قسمها إلى مقطعين الأول : كان في سيمياء الخمر والطبيعة. والثاني : تعلق بسيمياء الحرب، وتتخذ هذه الدراسة من المنهج السيميائي طريقا لها في سبيل تحقيق غايتها.
