لم يذكر لنا الرواة ولا صناع الدواوين أن عالما أو راويا صنع لقيس بن زهير العبسي ديوانا، لذلك هو من الشعراء الذين لم يصنع لهم ديوان شعر، فصنع له الدكتور عادل جاسم البياتي ديوانا صغيرا وذلك في سنة 1972 م حمل اسم الشاعر الفارس قيس بن زهير العبسي، وقد جمع شعره وحققه وكان بحق جهدا كبيرا وعملا رائعا يستحق الاحترام، قام محقق هذه الطبعة بدراسته دراسة جديدة تتفق مع مكانة الشاعر وقبيلته، مع إعادة الترتيب الشعر حسب القوافي وليس كما جمعه الدكتور عادل جاسم البياتي حسب الكثرة والقلة، مع تثبيت مناسبة النصوص إن وجدت، فضلا عن استدراك شعري تمثل في قصيدة وثلاثة أبيات مفردة يشار إليها في تخريجها في شعره المحقق، فضلا عن زيادة في مصادر التخريج، وحواشي الشعر، مع شرح وتوضيح ما استغلق فهمه على الدارسين والقراء.
