يتضمن هذا الكتاب دراسة تجريبية تدخل في نطاق اختبارات الذكاء لدى الأطفال من خلال الرسوم وقد اختار المؤلف اختبار \"رسم الرجل\" مجالا للبحث. فإلى أي مدى يمكن الحكم على صلاحية هذا الإختبار كميزان للنمو العقلي عند الطفل، يعتبر المؤلف : أن الرسمو التي يقوم بها الأطفال، إنما تعبر عن مستوى الذكاء بطريقة نسبية، وضمن شروط. فلجهة النسبية، فما الإختبارات إلا وسيلة للمقارنة، أي لمقارنة مستوى النمو العقلي لدى كل طفل بغيره من الأطفال من مثل عمره. والقياس الكمي ليس مطلقا، إنه نسبي، إذ لا نقيس الذكاء لدى أي فرد إلا بالنسبة إلى أفراد جيله، ولكي تصح المقارنة، يجب أن يكون الأطفال قد خضعوا لنفس التجارب في الحياة. وأن تكون بيئاتهم الثقافية والتربوية والإقتصادية واحدة...\"لذا جاءت هذه الدراسة لتبحث في وجهتين : 1-إعادة النظر في قرائن التصحيح المتبعة في إختبار رسم الرجل في المدارس وصياغتها في تنسيق جديد يكشف عن إنتشار المقدرات الفرعية، 2-تتبع مفهوم الأطفال لصورة البدن في الإنسان، لإستخراج العناصر الرئيسية المتمايزة فيها، وتطبيق القرائن الجديدة على جميع عناصر صورة البدن بمنهجية واحدة تكافئ في الوزن بين تلك العناصر.
