قصة امرأة البنانية مسيحية قامت بأعمال اجتماعية، كتأسيس مدرسة للصم والبكم، وبنضال على صعيد تحرير المرأة، وبالتزام في القضية الفلسطينية من خلال إنشاء جمعية أصدقاء القدس، جاءت الحرب الأهلية ولفت ماري روز في أعصار عنفها الدموي تختطف ماري روز وتجري لها محاكمة-تحيلتها الكاتبة-تنتهي باتهامها بالخيانة وباعدامها. المؤلفة، إتيل عدنان، كتبت هذه القصة بالفرنسية، وقد نالت عليها جائزة (جمعية الصداقة الفرنسية-العربية) العام ۱۹۷۸. شاعرية الكتابة تضفي على المناخ المأساوي بعداً نبوياً، قضاة ماري روز، فيما يحاكمون هذه الأخيرة، يصبحون هم المتهمين، ومن خلالهم، تشير إتيل عدنان، على مستوى التحليل الأنتروبولوجي، إلى دوافع العنف في مجتمعنا، وتكشف ترسبات وظواهر الذهنية العشائرية والقبلية والطائفية.
