يتناول الباحث في كتابه \"مراحل الفكر الأخلاقي\" قضايا الفكر الأخلاقي انطلاقا من الفضيلة ومرورا بالواجب والمحبة والعمل وذلك من خلال تحليل رؤى وأفكار الفلاسفة قديما وحديثا، ليؤكد أن تاريخ الفكر الأخلاقي يتفق مع تاريخ الفكر الشخصي في أن كلا منهما يتجه بسؤال الإنسان في موضوعات الأخلاق إلى الإجابة عن هذا السؤال، في أن كلا منهما، عندما يلتقي بمشكلة أخلاقية يتجه إلى حل هذه المشكلة : لابد من الإجابة عن السؤال ولا بد من حل المشكلة ولا قيام لموقف أخلاقي إلا بتلك الإجابة وبذلك الحل بل لا قيام لموقف أخلاقي إلا إذا اتجه الإنسان بسرعة إلى الإجابة عن السؤال، واتجه بسرعة إلى حل المشكلة\".
