عام 1952 نشرت الأونيسكو مشكلة العنصرية في العالم. من بين تلك الكتيبات. واحد لكلود ليفي-شتراوس بعنوان العرق والتاريخ قدم فيه محاولة مقتضبة تجاوزت موضوعها كثيرا فكانت مدخلا لتأمل جديد حول الثقافة العربية، ومعنى الحضارة، والسمة الاحتمالية للزمن التاريخي، إلخ. لقد كانت في الواقع، بعض مبادىء الفكر الحالي للمؤلف وقد تمت صياغتها، دون تقنية مفرطة وبلغة واضحة ودقيقة دائما.
