Overview
علم النفس psychology مشتق من كلمتين يونانيتين psyche بمعنى الروح أو العقل أو الذات Logos وتعني العلم أو الدراسة. وبالتالي يكون علم النفس هو دراسة الذات كما تكشف عن نفسها في الأداء والعمل والنشاط-أي في السلوك. ومن ثم يمكن تعريف علم النفس بأنه العلم الذي يدرس سلوك الإنسان أي يصف هذا السلوك ويحاول تفسيره. ونقصد بالسلوك كل ما تصدر عن الفرد من استجابات مختلفة إزاء موقف يواجهه إزاء مشكلة يحلها، أو خطر يهدده، أو قرار يتخذه، أو مشروع يخطط له، أو درس يحفظه، أو مقالة يكتبها، أو آلة يصلحها، أو مسابقة يعمل على الفوز فيها، أو لوحة فنية يتأملها، أو أزمة نفسية يكابدها.
