يتناول كتاب (الكنى والأسماء) والذي قام بتأليفه الإمام الحافظ أبي بشر محمد بن أحمد بن حماد الدولابي، موضوع (رواة الحديث) هذا الكتاب فريد من نوعه، عظيم في نتاجه، قدمه مصنفه نبراسا للعلماء، ومرجعا هاما لهم في أبحاثهم ومصنفاتهم، حيث جمع فيه العدد الكبير من أصحاب الكني من الصحابة والتابعين، الذين كان لهم الشرف العظيم في رواية الحديث النبوي الشريف، وتعرض لمعرفة أحوال الرجال والحفاظ وأسمائهم، وقد ذكر فيه طبقة الصحابة والتابعين ورتب كنى كل طبقة ترتيبا ألفبائي، كما ضم في آخر الكتاب فهارس علمية عامة، وعلى هذه الطبعة حواشي مهمة.
