هذه واحات العمر-السيرة الذاتية الأدبية-التي كانت قد صدرت في ثلاثة أجزاء علي مدي خمس سنوات (1998-2002) وكان الجزء الأول يحمل عنوان واحات العمر (1998) والثاني واحا الغربة (2000) والثالث واحات مصرية (2002) وهي تمثل خليطا متصلا من الأحداث الأدبية في فترات ثلاث، فالجزء الأول يختص بالجذور والنشأة والتكوين (1965-1975) والثاني يتناول فترة التخصص العلمي في الخارج والاصطدام بثقافة أجنبية (1956-1975) والثالث يتناول العودة إلي مصر والعمل بالكتابة المسرحية والنقد والترجمة حتي نهاية العمر الوظيفي الرسمي (1975-2000).
