هذا الكتاب ليس تلخيصا لنظريات فرويد ويونغ وغيرهما من أقطاب التحليل النفسي الذين عالجوا مشكلة الاحلام وتفسيرها بل هو تأليف جديد يفيد مما سبقه من نظريات ودراسات وبالأحرى يكثفه، يعيد قراءته في إطار نظرة شاملة تحاول الإحاطة بأبعاد الشخصية الإنسانية كلها من حيث أنها مجموعة رغبات وأن تاريخها الفردي والجماعي هو حياة هذه الرغبات وما بطرا عليها من التواءات (الأمراض العصبية-النفسية) أو ما هو كامن فيها من إمكانات هي أمانيها التي لم تتحقق.
