يطرح مؤلف هذا الكتاب سؤالا لا نعتقد أن أحدا طرحه قبله وهو : أما كان بإمكان علمائنا أن يحققوا ثورة غالييو التي انطلق منها العلم الحديث ؟ يجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب خلاصة جيدة عن الدور الحاسم للعلماء العرب في تكوين العلم، مما يمكن أن تسميه حداثة العلم العربي، حداثة تظهر على الخصوص في الفصل السادس المكرس المقارنة علمية بين بصريات ابن الهيثم ومقابلها عن ديكارت، المؤلف متخصص متمكن من اختصاصه، يشعرك عندما يشرح بعضا من انجازات كل من علماء العرب والعلماء الغربيين انه يجمع بين الايجاز والإبانة، أو بين الأمانة للعلم والقدرة على وضع النظريات العلمية في متناول المثقف العربي. لم يقصر العلماء العرب، بل سبقوا أحيانا عصرهم، عندما كانوا يبحثون في إطار مؤسسات اجتماعية تمكن كلا منهم من إنجاز بحوثه.
