الكتاب الذي أصدرته الهيئة العامة السورية للكتاب، يقدم العديد من الأمثلة والأذكار الممتعة والمفيدة، كما أنه يقدم بمرونة جانبا من الحياة العامة في ذلك الوقت، من خلال تقديمه لحياة \"خلف بن خليفة-الأقطع\" عنوان الكتاب، وفيه الكثير أيضا من الأخبار والمرويات التي لا توجد إلا بعد بحث وعناء في الجمع ولم شمل القصيدة مع صاحبها، ورغم أن الكاتب اختار شاعرا للتبحر في حياته وشعره، إلا أنه أيضا جاء على ذكر أمثلة وقصص شيقة ومفيدة في تتبع أخبار أهل ذلك الوقت، وما كان لهم وعليهم، سواء في الحياة الاجتماعية، أو في تلك الحياة التي اقتصرت على الشعراء، باعتبارهم من أهل مجالس الأنس والظرافة عند ذلك الحاكم أو غيره.
