أراد الباحث الأستاذ محمد عبد الحميد الحمد من كتابه (حضارة طريق التوابل) أن يبين أن كل حضارة هي جزء من مسارها التاريخي الطويل، وكان طريق التوابل أفضل شاهد على التواصل الحضاري بين أوروبا والعرب، لأن العرب قد تمثلوا كل الخبرات ومعطيات الدين والفن والسلوك والعادات والقيم، وكل ما كان يرافق السلع والبضائع، لقد شكل طريق التوابل والبخور الجسر الذي انتقلت عبره التأثيرات المختلفة منذ بداية تشكل المدن في حضاراتنا القديمة في ماري وإيبلا وتوتول وأوغاريت وتدمر وبصرى الشام وغيرها.
