يتحدث الكتاب عن أن المفهوم هو مفتاح الإدراك لابد للمفهوم من أمور تسبقه ليدرك، فهو لا يدرك من عدم إنه السلمة الثانية في الطريق للحكمة، ويتأتى من سمع وعمل وإخلاص في السمع عندما يفهم الإنسان يتحقق المعنى وتنجلي صورته. السلمة الثالثة التي تلي الفهم هي العلم وتتبعها المعرفة، ثم الحكمة، ومن أوتي الحكمة فقد أوتي خيرا كثيرا. مثل البحث عن المفهوم مثل البحث عن قطعة ذهب في منجم، فهو لا يتأتى بسهولة، ولا يدرك بسهولة أيضا.
