يريد هذا الكتاب أن يجدد النظر في انقلاب 19 يوليو1971 على نظام البكباشي جعفر نميري. لم يدم الانقلاب في الحكم سوى ثلاثة أيام عاصفة وأودى بزهرة قادة الحزب الشيوعي السوداني الذين أتهموا بتدبيره. ولقصر عمر الانقلاب المتناهي والأحلام التقدمية التي أذاعها على الملأ جعلنا لفصله الأول عنوانا هو \"علم اجتماع الضل (الظل) الوقف ما زاد\" بالنظر لمقطع لواحد من حداة التقدم، المرحوم الشاعر عمر الطيب الدوش. وهو وإن لم يقله في مصير 19 يوليو تحديداً إلا أنه مما ناسبه. فظل 19 يوليو انحسر وطوى بين دفتيه حركة إجتماعية غراء للكادحين مثيلها.
