قسم المؤلف كتابه في البداية إلى أربعة مجالس، تخللتها مجموعة من الفصول، فتحدث في المجلس الأول عن \"القضاء وخطورته\" وفي المجلس الثاني عن \"شروط القاضي\" وفي المجلس الثالث عن \"صفة جلوسه وتصرفه فيه\" وفي المجلس الأخير في \"ابتداء حكمه بين الخصمين، ثم انتقل إلى الحديث عن مجموعة من الأبواب الفقهية\" حصرها في ستة وثلاثين نوعا، تحت كل نوع منها مسائل متفرعة عنها، مثل النكاح والطلاق والظهار والإيلاء واللعان والبيوع والرهن والشركة والوديعة والعارية وأحكام الدماء والحدود وما إلى ذلك.
