ترى الكاتبة أن فكرة \"سورية الكبرى\" (وهي بلاد الشام أو سورية الطبيعية التي قسمتها بريطانيا وفرنسا إلى أربع دول سورية ، ولبنان، وشرق الأردن، وفلسطين في عام 1920 وبعد هزيمة الدولة العثمانية في الحرب العالمية الأولى) كانت حلما راود الأمير فيصل بن الشريف حسين حيث رأى أنه لا يمكن دمج الحجاز وسورية في حكومة واحدة إلا أنه بعد دخوله دمشق وإعلان قيام الحكومة العربية هناك اضطر إلى أن يقبل بحكم جزء من سورية الكبرى.
